This postion gives you a tremdous leverage and control on your opponents leg. This position give you the ability to take the back or end up in the deep half guard.

The deep half guard and the floss guard are a sport Jiu Jitsu These positions are fun to train and learn but for a fist fight you could put yourself in a bad position. Please check out our brazilian jiu jitsu classes and schedule at www.graciemd.com .
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gaithersburg, MD

Last night we worked on guard passing. I was teaching the same brazilian jiu jitsu guard pass that Ryron Gracie taught at Columbia BJJ seminar. This pass is a quick cut or a bull pass as they call it in the brazilian jiu jitsu world. The bull pass is agrressive and catches the oppoent off guard.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gaithersburg, MD

I have been very lucky to have train with with some of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in instructors in the world. Rickson Gracie, Pedro Sauer, Relson Gracie, Royler Gracie, and the list goes on.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gaithersburg, MD,

We here in Gaithersburg have oen of the best instructors in the world Prof. Pedro Sauer. Pedro is a 8th degree black belt under Rickson and Helio Gracie and a true legend. The difference between Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that bjj is sport and Gracie’s has a whole self-defense program standinga and ground defense. But, its easier to call it Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Please check out our schedule at http://graciemd.com/graciemd/default.asp

Its another great day in a Jiu Jitsu life style. I am down here in Delray Florida soaking up the Florida sun & watching some good surfing and training some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Rodrigo Mendes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy. In a state where there is tons of brazilian jiu jitsu academy I have found a small school with excellent instruction.

A modified tornado sweep and a sick triangle set up and some other really excellent brazilian jiu jitsu techniques that I will put into my game. I am really lucky have contacted Prof. Rodrigo.

Belt test and promotions,

On Tuesday December 14th, 8th Degree Red and Black Belt, Master Pedro Sauer held a test for white belts testing to blue belt and blue belts testing to purple belts in the advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. Those testing were; James Lamb, Christian Martinez, Cong Ngyuen, Josh Tugjynam, Ryan Patterson, Saeed Vatandoost and Katheryn Steen. Saeed and Katheryn tested for their purple belts while the others tested for their blue belts.

The test included a demonstration of techniques as well as a live rolling portion to demonstrate the ability to use the techniques and principles in context.

All students passed the examination and after the test Master Sauer congratulated them each and awarded the belts. Master Sauer went on to remind all the students in attendance that this is still the beginning of their training.

“Blue Belts this is just the beginning. Purple Belts this is just the beginning. Brown Belts this is just the beginning. And Black Belts this is just the beginning. I still learn something new every time I put on my gi. If I can keep learning I know you can keep learning.”

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in MD

Today at Jeff Gordon MMA brazilian jiu jitsu in MD our students worked on preparing themselves for there brazilian jiu jitsu blue and purple belt test December 14th. Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu association has a mandatory curriculum that every grappling student is required to know to pass his or her brazilian jiu jitsu belt exam. The blue belt test in our brazilian jiu jitsu association has 88 techniques and our purple belt test has 168 brazilian jiu jitsu techniques. This would seem to be over whelming but we prep air our brazilian jiu jiu jitsu students to pass. I have been training martial arts for almost 20 years and being awarded a belt in any martial arts system is something to be proud of. I can honestly say that a brazilian jiu jitsu belt is alot of work. Every day in Brazilian jiu jitsu your are being tested on the techniques effectiveness. This is by dominating your opponent or getting him to submit.

Brazilian jiu jitsu in MD or at any bjj school is not an easy task to receive a belt. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the only self-defense systems that you can spar every day. It is very difficult to do that in a stand-up art because of the injury factor.
Jeff Gordon MMA Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in MD demands that every student be prepared to be able to defend themselves. Its our reputation as a brazilian jiu jitsu academy and pride to have students handle themselves in a self-defense situation. Brazilian jiu jitsu tournaments are fun but that is not the barometer of a good brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner.

This week I was able to train with 8 time world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA fighter, Andre Galvao. The experience was incredible. We started out training Tuesday night at Fightworks Relson Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Sterling, Va. The class was everything you expected from a 8 time World Champion in brazilian jiu jitsu. Andre’s understanding and execution of brazilian jiu jitsu concepts and techniques is world class. Wendnesday we trainied at Tony Passos’ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

in Sterling, VA. Tony has a tremendous passion for brazilian jiu jitsu and an awesome game. He had over 50 brazilian jiu jitsu students in attendance and had an emotional belt ceremony. Thursday we trained here at Jeff Gordon MMA in Gaithersburg, MD. Andre showed why he has been to the gold level of the medal platforms so many times. He showed techinques from half guard, attacks from the cross side position, Del a Riva guard passes, and just passing the guard. Over the weekend we traveled to Kentucky for Master Pedro Sauer’s Fall training camp at Allan Manganello’s Louisville Martial Arts Academy.

There were around 20 black belts in attendance including Pedro Sauer (8th degree red and black belt), Luis “Limao” Heredia (5th degree black belt) and Jeff Curran (UFC and WEC veteran and brazilian jiu jitsu black belt). We are very fortunate to have such a humble person and a top rated brazilian jiu jitsu competitor and instructor here for these seminars.

Andre Galvao has an academy in San Diego called Atos. His team is comprised of the best of the best in the brazilian jiu jitsu world.
